representative of the United Methodist Church and to obtain the support
of the Conference UMVIM Committee. Seed money is limited to $1,000.00
for international destinations and $500.00 for domestic destinations.
NOTE:
In order to receive seed money from UMVIM NCC, the

Rebecca
B. Maddox Scholarship
As a member of Morris Chapel United Methodist
Church, Rebecca B. Maddox gave of herself to many causes. However, furthering
God’s kingdom was of the utmost importance in her life. In her local
church, she served in many capacities. As a United Methodist Youth Fellowship
counselor and United Methodist Woman, she helped to sponsor countless
yard sales, bake sales, and many other events to raise money that would
enable the church to fund various projects, all having a missional focus.
She faithfully served as the UMW president for many years and received
the UMW of the year as well as the Layperson of the year awards on more
than one occasion.
Becky heard the cry
of the needy and answered God’s call to help not only in the local
church and community, but in places all over the world. She participated
in her first United Methodist Volunteer-In-Mission team on July 1-11,
1986. She traveled to Dalvey, Jamaica with other United Methodists from
across the North Carolina Conference to complete the construction of a
Methodist Church that had been destroyed by Hurricane Gilbert. A major
emphasis was also placed on conducting a Bible School for the children
in the afternoons.
It was during these
eleven days that Becky witnessed something she had never felt before.
She realized first-hand what it was like to serve God completely through
body, soul, and mind, and spirit.
Becky wanted to go
again and again. Through “The Rebecca B. Maddox Memorial United
Methodist Volunteer-In-Mission Scholarship Fund”, administered by
the United Methodist Women of Morris Chapel UMC, she will be going again
and again. It is our hope and prayer that countless others will be richly
blessed by this endeavor.
Upon their return,
recipients of the scholarship are expected to share their experience with
the Morris Chapel UMW at their next regularly scheduled meeting. Scholarships
will not exceed $200.00.
